In order to lead and organization, like a school media center, you must first BE a leader. “A great leader posses a clear vision, is courageous, has integrity, honesty, humility and clear focus. He or she is a strategic planner and believes in teamwork. Great leaders help people reach their goals." (Gleeson, 2016) You have to know what your library needs, come up with a plan on how to meet those needs, and then get stakeholders on board with this plan. You have to know who to advocate to and who is more or less likely to support the vision you have for your library. You have to be able to disseminate the data (and there is A LOT of data in libraries, something I've definitely learned from the program) and then use it to further your agenda. You must be able to long term plan and have short term goals as well.
Both of the assignments I've evidenced showcase these leadership and advocacy skills. The collection plan shows long term planning and deliberate steps for analyzing the collection, monitoring the collection and adding to and removing from the collection, all based on data.
